The World’s Tallest Architect, A Documentary on César Pelli

Sebastian Neville, an Argentine-American filmmaker, dedicated four years (2000–2004) to bringing The World’s Tallest Architect to life. Before its Yale University screening, the film played to sold-out audiences for several nights at Manhattan’s Anthology Film Archive. Captured here in New Haven circa 2005, Santiago Neville (now working as an architect in Barcelona), Sebastián Neville, and the visionary César Pelli share a moment in Connecticut—three generations united by architecture and creativity. The film continues to reach new audiences and is available for screenings and to Yale University students through the university library system.

The World’s Tallest Architect, A Documentary on César Pelli

The World’s Tallest Architect is a 2000–2004 documentary film chronicling the life and work of César Pelli, one of the most influential modern architects of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Directed, produced, written, and edited by Sebastian Neville, the film blends Pelli’s own words with perspectives from peers, critics, and students, offering both personal insight and professional analysis.

The film was screened for one day at Yale University, attracting an audience of 250 people just two weeks before the pandemic was officially declared. Following the screening, Sebastian Neville and Michael Crosbie—a long-time writer and critic of Pelli's work—hosted a Q&A session. Highlights from the event can be seen in the accompanying video.
In The World’s Tallest Architect, a documentary on César Pelli, Sebastian Neville conducted in-depth interviews with renowned figures in architecture, including César Pelli, Kevin Roche, Michael Crosbie, Paul Goldberger, Robert A.M. Stern, and others across the US and Argentina. Neville was solely responsible for all interviews, most cinematography, and the complete editing process while based in New Haven, CT. The film was entirely self-financed, produced without any external financial support.
